2015 - What's Coming Soon

With the Christmas tree coming down tomorrow, I thought I'd give a brief update of what's due to be published (and written) in the upcoming year.

Surviving The Evacuation, Book 5: Reunion. I'm working on this at the moment. The story begins south of Penrith and follows two people (and if you've read Book 4, you know which ones) travelling south east, down to Hull. The story then switches point of view to continue two different characters journey, one which began in the epilogue of Book 4, before reaching the eponymous reunion.

I hammered out a 50,000 word outline whilst Book 4 was being edited, and I'm going through it now, expanded some parts and removing others (there was a really cool scene in Darlington that I've had to cut, though this town will almost certainly feature in at least one future book). At present I'm at the 20,000 word mark, and our two heroes are waiting for a rainstorm to pass, in an old coaching inn, out on the Yorkshire Moors. Whilst there, one of them is filling in some of the story of what he did in London before he made the journey to the Crystal Palace Transmitter. In the table of contents, I'm calling this part "Radio Free England".

I'm hoping to get this draft done by the end of the month, with it going out for editing in February. So it should be out late Feb - early March, if not before. I can't be more precise at the moment. That's the bad news.

The good news is that I'll be planning two more Evacuation books after this one. Book 6, which sees a return to Anglesey, though the story begins with an expedition to Svalbard. This book is very much about forging a civilisation out of the disparate groups that have found themselves on that island. There'll be some action, some politics, and almost certainly no London whatsoever.

The other book (and I'm not sure which of these two will be finished first) is "The Great Dead North (Surviving The Evacuation: Canada") This started off as a normal crime story (no zombies) about a prison break. But after playing around with the idea for a while, I found it worked even better with the addition of the undead.

More on these two once Book 5 is finished, but I'm hoping to get them both out before the summer.

And during the summer, I'm going to take a break from the living dead and write something else. It'll be a prequel to a series I'm thinking of writing once we reach the end of the Evacuation. And more on that later in the year.

Also coming soon: Audiobooks (probably around Easter).

But before then. Watch this space. There's a 10,000 word short story titled "History's End" in the At Hell's Gate Vol.2" Anthology, due to be released at the end of this month. More on this later in the week, this is also a prequel/prelude to a post-apocalyptic series, one in which there are no monsters at all, just individuals, and not enough of them to rebuild the species.

Okay, so that's one short story, and three novels due out before the summer. I should probably get back to work.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year.
